Youth-Level Classes

IMPROV AND BEYOND (high school)
Creating characters and scenarios using improvisation and introducing voice techniques and body movement.

GETTING YOUR ACT TOGETHER (jr. high)
Introducing acting fundamentals using theatre games, improvisation and short scene work.

FROM PAGE TO STAGE (ages 6-8)
Children are engaged in the art of pantomime while acting out classic fairy tales and an original fairy tale of their own.

SKITS AND SKETCHES (ages 9-11)
Students perform skits and sketches using props and costuming. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own original skits.

PUPPET THEATRE (ages 6-8)
Children learn to create character voices and perform their own little puppet show.

SHOWTIME (ages 9-11)
Students learn to use the art of improvisation in creating characters for the stage.

Adult-Level Classes (18+)

CREATING A CHARACTER
A "fundamentals of acting" class for both the beginner and advanced student. Improvisation, text analysis and acting techniques are incorporated in this scene-study class.

AUDITION TECHNIQUE
A class for the beginning actor and the working actor. The class includes selecting the appropriate monologue, text analysis, the dialogue-monologue connection, proper eye-placement techniques and a critique of the performance.

Scenario-based workshop focusing on interviewing skills and communication tips. Your personal coaching session. Cast yourself in a career that reflects your talents and abilities.

BRIDAL-PARTY WORKSHOP
This special workshop is designed for that special wedding day. Be you the bride or groom, best man, maid of honor, or beaming parents of the happy couple, this workshop will help you through saying vows, speaking sentiments or toasting the couple.

THEATRE THEMED PARTIES
These include improv games for anyone. We bring the program to your anniversary, birthday or any event.

Classes Currently Not Being Offered

SCENE STEALERS I (ages 6-10)
Developing imagination and creativity using a variety of theatre activities: pantomime, puppetry, improvisation and introduction to play performance.

SCENE STEALERS II (ages 11-13)
Using theatre games, improvisation, pantomime and puppetry as a means for character development. Monologue techniques, scene work and theatre terms are introduced.

PEEK-A-BOO FOR PRESCHOOLERS: PUPPETS, PANTOMIME AND PLAY (ages 3-5)
A wonderful introduction to creative dramatics that encourages active participation in the art of storytelling, puppets, pantomime and movement.

TEENS TAKE THE STAGE
Students perform in Curtain Up’s new Saturday Storybook Theatre series. The course focuses on creating larger-than-life characters for Children’s Theatre. The students learn how to perform in an interactive production with audience members. Comic business and improvisation are highlighted.

IMPROVE YOUR IMPROV
A nonstop afternoon of theatre games that offer opportunities for the actor to experience the complete improvisational process, from scenario writing to stand-up comedy.

SUMMER THEATRE DAYS
Come for the week, a few days, even just a day. From puppets to pantomime, scriptwriting to scene performance and reader’s theatre, lip-syncs to improv skits, Curtain Up will make your imagination take flight.

CHEERS AND JEERS: OLD-FASHIONED MELODRAMA FUN
Get in on all the fun of putting on an old-fashioned melodrama. Heroes, damsels in distress and menacing villains are all part of the melodrama mix. The session ends with a showcase performance. Improvisation and theatre games add to the fun.

AUDITION AND MONOLOGUE WORKSHOP

ADULT SCENE-STUDY
Experiencing the scene-study process via character analysis and development, improvisation techniques, creative autobiographies and text deconstruction.
